Music for games: who, how, where?

I listen to beautiful music for modern games, and I'm afraid to be deceived: is it an orchestral (live) recording or is it a computer one? The same Morrowind and Lineage…
Who writes it, what is it, are there specialized resources for game music?

If the budget allows, then the music is recorded with a real live orchestra (if necessary). Usually a lot of the details can be gleaned from developer diaries (videos in which developers talk about different aspects of creating a game). For example, for Heavy Rain (PS3), the music was recorded with a real orchestra at Abbey Road Studios. For game music, I personally know the game-ost.ru resource.
Morrowind was composed by Jeremy Soule, one of the most famous game composers.

See music drains, for example. Here you can find and buy music, actually recorded, both one-time and exclusively. There are many such sites. I know guitarists who write themselves and put their recordings up for sale on stocks. And they even buy them.

As far as I remember, the Koreans also used live performers for Lineage2. I saw this information a long time ago, so I can’t say for sure whether there was a large orchestra or several musicians there.
In most cases, for large projects, music recorded live is used. For much smaller usually computer.

After a lost evening, I decided to post it here:
dtf.ru - I found an experienced person in my city
www.gamedev.ru/sound/forum/ - it seems that if you search, you can stumble upon real pros.
They also say you can find music here:
www.freesound.org
www.shockwave-sound.com/
