How are the IP addresses of computers determined by their names on a local network?
There is no DNS on the network. How are addresses determined? Does it depend somehow on the operating system? Will addresses be determined in a local network consisting of Linux computers?

If there is a Windows domain, normal DNS is used, names are resolved in the default domain. Windows workgroups use the NBNR (NetBIOS name resolution) protocol , names can be resolved by a broadcast request or through a WINS server. Apple networks (as well as on Windows when installing the appropriate component from Apple) use the Bonjour protocol . For Linux networks, the LDNS protocol or regular DNS with a default domain is most often used, as in Windows domain networks.
