A program that allows you to view videos and photos in a slideshow mode?

There are tons of programs for creating various slideshows with sound, images, etc.
I don't need to create anything. I just want to find some simple viewer that can scroll photos and videos from a certain folder with smooth transitions and that's it!
I will run the musical accompaniment in parallel on Winamp.
In principle, a regular Windows Media Player can do this - but it shows photos with a hard switch to a black background - it hurts the eye.

I like Google Picasa for this, they say Google is about to close it, but the program itself will continue to work.
