Why did the site stop working after connecting to Cloudflare?

Hello, I'm talking about the situation. There is a python / flask site on which it was decided to install Cloudflare (together with hosting on the same site, I grabbed a domain so as not to take a steam bath)

It seems that everything was done correctly, the dns of the server changed, it determined all the records correctly, when I ping it it shows IP cloudflare.

Everything seems to be hurt, but 2 days have already passed, and the site is not working.

How is this theoretically possible? Interesting to hear speculation.

1) How did the site work without Cloudflare? http? https?
2) How is Cloudflare configured? SSL mode?
3) if we turn off Cloudflare proxying - does it work?
