When you put the date - 1990 is clearly not needed. Why is that?

The calendar is used to set dates - current, birthdays, events, etc. Obviously, the past years may be needed.
Manufacturer defect. For example, after downloading Nokia offers to set the year of manufacture of the phone.
Calendars in interfaces do not manually draw one leaf at a time. Making a calendar displaying from 1901 to 2038 (for example) is no more difficult than from 2015 to 2038. And since it's "free", why not make a calendar for all the dates that the selected time storage format allows. Why make additional restrictions?
