Which MacBook should I replace my MacBook Air '13 Mid 2014 with?
I want to change my Macbook Air 13 inch, which I bought in September 2014 to the current one. I have Air in the minimum configuration of 128 GB, but I had no problems with it for 3.5 years, everything is stored in the cloud and on an external hard drive. I'm starting to do web design, so I want a more powerful laptop with a high-quality screen (because lately I've been reading more from a laptop screen, browsing websites, etc.). I didn’t notice any discomfort in working with Photoshop on air, I just felt that 4 GB of RAM was not enough, I had to close everything. Now there is money for the minimum configuration of the MacBook Pro 13 2017 128 GB, tell me, is it worth buying 256 GB and what is the difference (I read a lot of things, but did not understand)? I know that the Pro 15 is more powerful, but I want a laptop for the first time with the subsequent update to the pro 15, if I really succeed with the design, now I want the retina display more. If the air had a retina display and more RAM, I would hardly change it.

I have two "firmware" with 13", both with 8GB of RAM, and ssd with 128 each. One is working, the other is home. Enough. And yes: one of them with a retina. Take it with a retina screen, 8 GB of RAM is enough (I can judge this because I also have an iMac with 16GB on board.)
There will be no retina on Air - this is a dead line in Apple products, because if you put a retina on Air, you get what marketers call "product cannibalism" - more fat air will start to compete with other laptops of the company.
And if you are serious about design (including for the web), then take an external 21" hdmi monitor, keyboard and trackpad.
As for software, I sent Adobe products to the firebox. My web software right now is: Affinity Designer, Sketch, Figma, Pixelmator.
In my opinion, the retina is not suitable for design at all, since you will either have to make layouts in @2x and make sure that everything is divided into two (which is hemorrhoids), or half as much (you will break your eyes). And this is not an indicator of the quality of the screen, but of the resolution. And the quality is an IPS matrix (air does indeed have an r screen, but not because of the lack of a retina).
