What version of vSphere can we install without violating the license agreement?

In October 2016, vSphere 6.0 Essentials PLUS + a contract for a year (basic technical support and subscription) were purchased. The contract was not renewed and ended on 2017-10-03.
Now there is a need for this software.
It is not clear which version of vSphere we have the right to install without violating the license agreement.

there are two opinions:
1) buying ESXI 6.0 with a subscription contract and those. support (which ended on 2017-10-03 ), we have the right to install ESXI 6.5 (released on 2016-11-15) and install all patches and cumulative updates that have been released or will be released for ESXI 6.5 .

2) Or we can install ESXI 6.5, but we have the right to install only those patches and cumulative updates that have been releasedBEFORE 2017-10-03 (contract expiration date)?

A big request to tell which of the two options is correct, in terms of the licensing policy of Vmware. (and if there is a link to the official document).

Easy option.
You have received the key. That's where the key works, then you can bet.
Complicated.
There are no restrictions on updates, you can update 6.5 to the latest patch.

If you have a 6.0 key, you can use 6.0. To clarify questions about 6.5 - contact the support, but since you did not pay for the support contract - most likely you will first be asked to pay for the entire period up to the current moment :)
This is if it's straight on garlic.
You can score and buy again 6.7 (or whatever was the last one)
PS: We once stepped on this nail too - we didn’t pay for Nakivo support - and here is a new version of the sphere, but Nakivo does not support it ...

If from opacity to transparency, then you can do something like this

-webkit-mask-image: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, right top, from(rgba(0,0,0,1)), to(rgba(0,0,0,0)));
