To get started, run tests, such as furmark.
Watch the temperature. Suppose at the start the video card draws the desktop, and is heated by 45 °, for example. When she starts drawing a donut, she will heat up (for example, up to 90 °). If at the same time the heating occurred abruptly, in a few seconds, then it's time to change the thermal paste. Normally, it takes minutes, not seconds, to warm up.
Often there are problems with soldering the video processor and memory. From many heating-cooling cycles, the solder can crack and the contact becomes bad. Some craftsmen treat this by frying the video card in the oven. This is a rather dumb method, and it is better to give it to the workshop, where it will be heated with a hairdryer, or even re-soldered. But make sure that such a repair does not turn out to be more expensive than buying another video card :)
Run more video memory tests. Sometimes a partial memory replacement saves.
