What happens if on Windows with a bunch of progs you change the standard installation path for programs?

If I knew about such a chip immediately after reinstalling Windows, then I would probably use it. But there is already a lot of prog. Disk C is already full, 20GB left. It seems that I tried to change the standard path, but it seemed to me that it was risky, since the paths for already installed ones would go astray. How to proceed? Quietly reassign - nothing will be spoiled or ..?

Why should anything go wrong? And secondly, who bothered you when installing programs, just change the directory for installation and that's it.
