What file system is needed for an external HDD so that the disk can be used in Windows and MacOS?
Question. There is an external screw, there are two machines, one of them has Windows 8.1 installed, the other MacOS 10.9 Mavericks. The screw needs to be formatted so that it can work with both Windows and MacOS.
Now the screw is formatted under NTFS, but out of the box this file system is not kept in MacOS. I saw a lot of information on the net about the use of certain programs in MacOS, which, with their driver, add NTFS support to MacOS. But I was confused by the next moment - the driver, of course, is not native, and it seems to be not always stable (according to reviews on the net, there are a lot of system crashes due to the use of prog with this driver). Plus, it was not recommended to actively work with the disk when using this driver, i.e. You can copy files back and forth, but it is not recommended to use them for torrents.
Infu found for 2011, perhaps something has changed during this time. Therefore, I would like to know the opinion on the use of third-party programs, and feedback from users who actually used such programs and for what purposes (i.e. only read / write files, or torrents, including for virtual machines, etc.)
And yes, do these programs work under a 64-bit system? Again, I found info on the net that they are exclusively for 32-bit versions of MacOS.
Secondly, I found information about the exFAT file system, which works out of the box in both Windows and MacOS. Since this is so, there is a question - because. this file system is the direct successor of all FATs, I would like to know how critical it is to a sudden power loss (FATs suffered from damage to something if the power suddenly disappeared). Is it possible to use a disk with this FS for downloading torrents, etc.

For ntfs, you can buy Paragon for mac, this thing costs about 600-700 rubles, I think. Works with a bang. I bought it a couple of years ago, after installation there were no problems.
Under torrents, it is usually not recommended to use it because of the SSD.
I have a MacBook, as probably everyone else. costs the second Windows7 through Parallels. To painlessly save data from under Os X and Windows 7, I formatted an external hard drive in exFat. Now all data is visible from under both axes, and Os X, when a hard drive is connected, sees the files on it through the SpotLight search.
exFAT dies just as fast as FAT32, if not worse, it stores partition table data in one place, unlike FAT32.
