What advice would you give to an investor?

I am a developer in a startup, in conversations there was a topic about the possibility of investing in an employer's company. I have an IP and a contract with them. I plan to invest and provide myself with a "good pension", i.e. agreement without a time frame.
What investment options are available?
On what terms?
What documents should be drawn up for investments, and for the payment of dividends from profits in the future?
Underwater rocks?

US jurisdiction (EU?) - consult a lawyer for money
If not - take money and immediately

- well, this is provided that the startup "takes off". Which, according to statistics, happens in 5-10 percent of cases. Although each "startupper", offering the developer instead of a salary - a share in future profits (sincerely??) says that "well, that's for sure, their startup is one of those that will take off."
So maybe "a good pension", or maybe "it would be better to take a salary, at least some money would remain until retirement."

The first thing an investor needs to find out is the company's potential for investment. The potential of a startup is obviously doubtful, especially for your long investment horizon - with the expectation of retirement.
Dividends are paid on shares, and you have a startup that has not yet entered the stock market and does not have its own shares.
Perhaps they will offer to lend them (issue something like bonds) with a promise to pay interest, but no one will forbid them to refuse to pay this debt - they will declare themselves bankrupt and that's it.
If you have money and a desire to invest, choose a large company on the Moscow or St. Petersburg Stock Exchange and start receiving dividends. All registration and taxes will be taken over by the broker.
