"Translation" of phrases from Russian into "similar" English?

Machine translation from one language to another

I came across a picture - a map of the Moscow metro, where all the stations are written in English phrases (not always correct), which sound almost the same as the real names of these stations.
The "translation" is clearly done by some algorithm. Perhaps someone knows who did this, perhaps there is a service that translates phrases in this way or even source codes that you can feel?

looks a little like a script. Has anyone actually done this by hand? in general, I don’t think that this was done by an algorithm.
