Smaller hdd thickness in laptop?

Hello. The question is tormenting. The laptop has an internal hard 2.5 with a thickness of 9.5mm. You need to buy a new gesture in return for this. Question: "Is it necessary to buy a disc of the same thickness or can it be 7mm?". It's just that the choice is rather meager hdd 9mm. Thank you.

Smaller is always fine.

If there is a sled on which the drive is mounted, then there will be no problems. Most laptops have.
If there is no slide and is attached only to the connector, then you can stick electrical tape in several layers on the opposite edge of the drive so that it does not hang out.

if the boxed version of hdd / ssd is often included in the kit there is a seal to the old size.
if not, you can make it yourself according to the model from the Internet.
most often you can do without a sealant.
