In other words: if we take two HDD 2.5 form factors, one external and one internal, from the same manufacturer, for example, it will be Western Digital, we will get such a picture that the external one is 20-30 percent cheaper (and sometimes more) than the internal .
Especially the difference in price (cheapness) can be traced if we compare the external and internal HDD of large volumes (>= 4 TB). Small ones are hard to see.
Which begs the question, what are they stuffing into the outer boxes?
Of course, everyone knows that 90 percent of all HDDs, no matter what label they are in use
(Seagate, Western digital or something else), these are disks produced at Samsung factories, simply produced in different places and using slightly different technologies. That is, Samsung provides factory capacities, and Seagate, Western Digital and others provide technology.
On the Internet, there is an opinion that such a price difference follows from the high competition in the external HDD market and the excess of manufactured goods.
I have no doubt that this is true, because it is well traced in history, but I assume that there is another reason for this price difference.
After all, an external HDD is mainly used as an external drive via a USB interface, which means that the speed requirements are not too high, because the interface simply will not let through faster ... This means that the requirements for the HDD inside the box can also be lower. Therefore, they shove there the same, not very high-quality and fast HDDs, which, due to lack of demand, remained in the warehouse.
I ask you to explain this situation to me, comrades, because you need to put a HDD in a larger laptop and I am tormented by the thought: why not buy a cheaper external HDD, pick it out and insert it where necessary?
By the way, here is another point. There are many times more external 2.5 HDD form factors than internal ones. And if we take a large volume, for example 4 TB, then only one Seagate model remains internal, and there are relatively many external ones of this volume and there is even plenty to choose from. This hurt me the most. What is the actual reason?

нужно ставить HDD в ноутбук большего объёма и меня мучает мысль: а почему бы не купить более дешёвый внешний HDD, выковырять его оттуда и вставить куда надо?

Имейте ввиду, что при факторе 2.5", высота нескольких устройств может отличаться.
То есть некоторые модели дисков могут не влезть в некоторые модели лэптопов.

Это не всегда так. Зависит от конкретной ситуации на рынке, какие партии как и откуда ввозились, есть ли дефицит, и т.п. Ну и да, бывают дорогие модели, а в коробки обычно суют что подешевле.
Если вам всё равно что ставить в ноутбук - можно и внешний расковырять. Имейте только в виду, что там может оказаться диск с интерфейсом USB на плате.
