Selecting an external HDD
Actually faced such problem that external HDD is necessary. It will be carried in a backpack so the size/weight is not particularly important.
Actually what is the difficulty. I have a Macbook 2011 with Firewire and Thunderbolt. I do not want to buy USB 2.0 hard, and USB 3.0 is not in the macbook. Hards with Thunderbolt have not yet been made.
And everything with Firewire is either insanely expensive or externally powered.
Basically what you want. HDD 1Tb with Firewire.
Maybe someone saw this or boxing for hard?
The main power is not from the mains! Are there any options?

In the wild, there are boxes for 2.5 screws, USB / FireWire. Cons - they are firewire 400, plus - no power
I will leave my opinion on this issue here. It does not claim to be the ultimate truth, but invites reflection.
In general, if the desire has not disappeared, then the Disk + Box
Well, or something like that.
If USB power is desired, large format hard drives are out of the question. Only 2.5'' and less remain. At a price of 2.5'' cheaper than smaller ones. An already “ready-made” external drive in a box costs more than buying a separate HDD and a separate box.
// PS In general, you decided to buy a disk at the wrong time: after the flood, prices skyrocketed.
Can you put a second HDD instead of a DVD inside a MacBook and not have problems with slow interfaces and power? I just bought an Optibay clone for my MBP on Ebay, I'm waiting ...
