Raid controller for the LSI 2308 server, is it worth it?
Good afternoon, comrades, we need advice from professionals, we are going to take a server for the web. There was a choice - software or hardware raid, I came to the conclusion that there would be no sense in hardware with raid 1 (correct if not).
We will have a trail. config:
• Intel Xeon E3-1270 v3
• 24GB DDR3
• 2 x 600GB 15k SAS
• 2 x 1TB SATA (for backups)
The hardware vendor has compiled a preliminary config for us:
Supermicro CSE 813MTQ-520/X10SL7-F
• Single socket H3 (LGA 1150) supports
• Intel® Xeon® E3-1200 v3, 4th gen Core i3, Pentium, Celeron processors
• Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1275 v3 (8M Cache , 3.50 GHz)
• Intel® C222 Express PCH
• 24GB to 32GB DDR3 ECC 1600MHz UDIMMs in 4 sockets
• Dual Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports via Intel® i210AT
• 2x SATA (6Gbps), 4x SATA (3Gbps)
• 8x SAS2 (6Gbps) via LSI 2308
• SATA
• SATA3 (6Gbps) w/ RAID 0, 1
• SATA2 (3Gbps) w/ RAID 0, 1, 5, 10
• SAS
• SAS2 (6Gbps) via LSI 2308
• SW RAID 0, 1, 1E, 10 support
• 2 x 600GB 15000RPM SAS
2 x 1TB SATA 7200 64MB
• Expansion slots: 1x PCI-E 3.0 x8 (in x16), 1x PCI-E 2.0 x4 (in x8)
• 2x USB 3.0 (1 Type-A + 1 via header)
6x USB 2.0 (4 rear + 2 via header)
• Integrated IPMI 2.0 with KVM and Dedicated LAN
• SATA DOM power connector support
• VGA D-sub connector, TPM header
• 520W Power Supply

I understand that this is a controller to support sas screws, and the raid itself will be software, right?
Don't use LSI 2308
Build a full software raid, not a hardware raid.
What will you do if the mother dies, but the same one does not exist and you need this particular controller? And with a completely soft one, it will start on any hardware.
