Question about VLAN separation?
Hello. Newbie question.
I want to study VLAN and at the same time put things in order in my network.
I threw in a diagram as I understand it:
But I immediately have a question: If I understand correctly, then switching between VLANs will occur through a router, which means that the channel to which it is connected and the router itself will be overloaded?
- Computers will communicate with NAS and servers
- Backup server will work with user machines and servers
- Terminal Server also works with NAS and databases
- Bandwidth server also works with DB
- View camera recordings from some working machines
All these packets between Rakhny VLANs will pass through the router over 1 1Gb cable.
Tell me what and how, and if it's not difficult, tell me if it's logical to divide my network into VLANs.
Thank you!
PS: For some reason, I was too lazy to add equipment.
Routet - Mikrotik 951g-2hnd
Upper switch - 3com 3cblsf50
Lower switch - Dlink dgs 1024d (we will change it!!!)

If you do not plan to purchase an L3 switch, then yes, traffic between VLANs will go through Mikrotik.
In order to minimize traffic between vlans, it is worth putting into separate vlans what does not communicate with each other.
For example ACS and video surveillance and telephony.
Telephony and users sometimes do not communicate, but not on all systems.
Accordingly, you should not take out terminals and servers in a separate vlan from users.
