Is your drawing process to keep the proportions of objects on the screen?

Hello.
Here I have the screen of the target device, with the target resolution. And I need to draw level details, objects, characters. All the lessons that I met began with creating the size of the image of the object / character, the size of the canvas was taken as if from the head. But with this approach, it is not clear whether they will be in proportions relative to other images. Those. you will probably have to scale the image - reduce, increase. And talking about the raster.
How to keep proportions? First, create a canvas the size of the screen, sketch out the dimensions of objects and characters on it with rectangles, then measure the dimensions of these rectangles, and then create separate files with canvases of these sizes? And only then draw in them?
Either I do not understand, and in fact there will be no distortion.

It's not entirely clear what exactly you're interested in.
If the question is about sprites / textures, then it’s better to initially draw a little larger and then shrink it.
If it's a render, then everything is more interesting. There are many tricks. For example, you can make a "virtual" render (may be larger/smaller than the real screen) and adjust the result from it to the current screen/resolution. You can go the route of relying on the width or height of the screen.
If the question about the proportions of sprites / textures is so simple, they can also be easily compressed / stretched, etc. Anytime.
