Is there a distance or part-time bachelor's program in mathematics, statistics?
I would like to get a higher education remotely / by correspondence in the field of mathematics, so that there is a base and crust for further education and work as a Data Science specialist.
All distance learning programs that I found are either related to programming (software engineering) or computer technology, and in all these programs the share of mathematics is very small and there are many subjects that are irrelevant for Data Science (I can of course be wrong, so tell me if you need an in-depth study of electronics , operating systems and networks to work in this area?).
There is another option to get the required set of knowledge through Coursera, but without a diploma of higher education it is somehow risky to do this, I'm afraid employers will not appreciate it and it will be a waste of time, for all serious Data Science vacancies in the requirements everywhere they write about the need for a diploma of higher education mathematics education.
At the moment, I have decided to go to software engineering and get a mathematical base from Coursera, then try myself on Kaggle, but two points are very pressing - if I go to study outside my specialty, then I will study subjects that I don’t need (OOP, software development processes , programming in 1C, etc., etc., although I love to study, but time is a very valuable resource and I want to properly dispose of it) and the diploma will say something like a programmer engineer, not a mathematician. Therefore, I would be glad if there is an option for obtaining a diploma remotely in a mathematical specialty.
UPD: I found several interesting master's online programs of the leading universities of the Russian Federation in this area, where you can enter a bachelor-programmer. Yes, plus 2 years, but this is a real working option and very promising in my opinion.
