Is it possible to open a DLNA(UPnP) video by URL in VLC instead of through the file browsing process in the UI?

There is a home DLNA server, and it is possible to play videos from there in VLC. But to open the video, you need to go through the VLC GUI all the way through the folders.
Is it possible to open a video by simply feeding VLC a special URL/URI?
And what is its format?
