Is it possible to make Unity recognize digits / numbers from the phone's camera?

I need to recognize numbers from the camera of a mobile device. I myself know only a little Unity (which provides a multi-platform, which is a big plus for me), in fact, I started with it.
To begin with, I tried to set up the camera, but it’s not very successful in positioning it normally (I need a “Portrait” location). On the PC everything is fine, but on Android it refuses to work.
Does anyone have a couple of tips or should I go some other way?
And are there any recommendations about using OCR libraries?

Need to recognize specific numbers with a specific font? Then you can try to score as a marker in Vuforia or ARToolKit (did not try it).
If there are different styles, large numbers, then it might be worth looking towards OpenCV (I haven't tried it either).
