Is it possible to make a gateway on linux with 1 network interface?

there is a virtual machine on debian, it has 1 network interface through which it accesses the Internet through a gateway in the internal network. I would like to test different rules. Is it possible to make it a gateway with Internet access without 2 network interfaces?

as I understand it, the vlan network will receive the Internet and the eth0 interface will be internal? or do you need 2 vlana
