Is it possible to connect a 4 pin fan to a 3 pin connector (Molex adapter)?

The essence of the problem: you need to connect a fan with a 4-pin connector to a Molex connector or a 3-pin connector (all the same through an adapter to Molex).
1. There is a fan with a 4-pin connector, will it work without a PWM connection, i.e. if you connect only power to the black and yellow wires (you need to solder there, and now there is no way)?
2. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to quickly solder a PWM controller to it without problems with the controller firmware? To be powered by a Molex connector and regulated by some kind of twist (variable resistor).
