If this is a mirror (raid1), then yes, you can work on half of the mirror, because it is identical to the second half. For example, if there is a hardware problem with one of the disks, then it is changed, then the data is synchronized, and all this can be done without stopping the system (if there is a possibility of hot hardware replacement of the disk).
