How to upgrade a laptop?
Hello!!!
I have a Lenovo G570 laptop. Two cores, Intel (R) Celeron (R) B800 1.5 GHz processor, 2 Gb RAM, 500 Gb hard drive, 800 Mb Intel video card. How can I improve it, that is, improve its performance? Is it worth it to overclock the processor (but before that increase the speed of the cooler for better cooling), increase the RAM, replace the hard drive with another one (1 Tb)? What else can be done to make it faster?
Thank you in advance!!!

Nothing.
But if everything is really bad, then the first thing to do is to throw out everything unnecessary that uses resources. The best option would be to install archlinux (or gentoo, but it will be more difficult) according to the manual , with light openbox and everything to a minimum. Unfortunately, chromium eats gigabytes of RAM, so you have to do with some netsurf , or something more mainstream (read, beautiful) like Midori without extensions; in general, there is a choice . Be sure to set up zram and enjoy the doubled amount of RAM.
Now more hardware. Overclocking, of course, is worth doing. But without experience, I strongly advise you not to, it is better to look for a machine that is not a pity - the process may end a little sadly. However, in the case of overclocking, it’s not that I don’t advise you to increase the number of cooler revolutions, it’s more likely that it simply won’t work. From a more real disassemble it, clean it from dust, replace the thermal paste. Budget laptops already work at the limit of their cooling capabilities, and if the OS writes that the cooler is working at 100%, most likely it is. Moreover, increasing the speed will only drive more dust into it.
Now about what is worth spending money on. First of all, just change the RAM. Slow computer performance is a sure sign of RAM degradation. Today it is the first to degrade - modern CPUs have a huge margin of performance, while memory errors make the OS more and more stupid and freeze, and sometimes crash. Then, if possible, it’s still worth changing the processor: zram will eat CPU percentages, so the next one goes with a narrow neck. The HDD can be changed to an SSD, but if SMART says that everything is fine, then everything is fine: it will give its 50 mbps with a millisecond delay, so the SSD will not make the weather. For speech not about Windows.
Now attention. If suddenly, if you don’t want to switch to Linux in any way, then it’s very, very in vain. Here are file systems in userspace , and productive work, and games (although this is unlikely to be playable). But now, what can be done on Windows: even less than nothing. No seriously. If with Linux this mare will live out its last days, then on Windows it has almost nothing to catch. From what can help here, this is only hardware ( replacing RAM, CPU, adding discrete video because Windows is voracious on graphics): since Windows does not support zram, it does not have a lightweight environment, nor other goodies, such as centralized storing libraries (saving on disk cache). In general, Windows plows normally on serious machines. Alternatively, you can try Windows XP, which, although not supported anymore, was created at a time when 512 mb RAM is verylot. Unless you just put a clean one and don’t load anything else: you don’t need any decorators and other memory eaters. For the Internet, I also advise netsurf and others like them .
+1 to the answer above. An SSD is a must. And memory, if the design allows, at least 4GB
We buy SSD gigs for 64-128, put the system and all the necessary software on it. We throw out the DVD drive and put instead the HDD for these 500 gigs (or more if you want) via Hdd-caddy (ordered from eBay). It is also worth increasing the amount of RAM. At least 4 gigs (and if possible, then all 8 or at least 6). Nuuu and all. You probably won't get more out of it. You can also have a reinforced battery if you want it to last longer.
Given the age of the hardware and a very weak processor, I would advise you not to waste money on SDD, but to buy a hybrid drive. For example ST500LM000. It will come out cheaper and more spacious. Well, expand the memory up to 4Gb.
Forget about overclocking. It will not give any significant increase.
Well, carefully approach the system settings.
