How to fix rgb palette in adobe illustrator?

In the "Color" options palette, I always select the "RGB" mode (it's very convenient to pick up the hex version of the color from it). As long as I'm just selecting elements and such, everything is OK. But when I switch to the Eyedropper tool and poke somewhere, the Color switches to B&W type and the hex color field disappears.
Is it possible to somehow fix the color panel in "RGB" mode?
