What needs to be done so that all the drawn shapes are shown in Adobe Illustrator, and the Shape Maker tool works?

I have drawn some rectangles and ellipses on the image and now I want to connect them using Shape Builder, but when I do that my shapes are not visible and a crossed out circle icon appears near the cursor
