How to correctly answer the employer's question about the speed of layout?

I am a beginner layout designer and I'm wondering how to correctly answer the employer's question about how fast I type. I understand that everyone needs a layout designer who makes a site of any complexity in a couple of days, but I'm not that high yet and have an average layout speed, plus a lot depends on the layout. How to present myself in such a way that the employer understands that I am not yet a virtuoso, but at the same time not completely zero and he understood my level?

The concept of the speed of the work of an IT specialist (designer, layout designer, programmer) is always relative and is measured differently for different customers. There is "pure" work time, and there is real time, taking into account thinking and even drinking tea (for example, I always include this time in the calculation of project time). It is important, when talking about the speed of work, that these concepts are not confused either by you or the employer.
In your case, I would say that the correct answer is straight, they themselves said - " Average ". There are those who typeset faster, but they cost two or three times more. A good employer, looking at your portfolio, must understand how fast you work, since in many respects the speed of work is determined by the presence of previously made developments and savings in the search for a solution to the problem.

right

There are no right answers to such questions. You never know what the author of the question meant, what he himself understands in the question, and what he expects to hear. But you can always convey some thoughts and reasoning to show how you see the question itself from the standpoint of your experience.
how fast do i type

With what it is necessary, with such also I typeset. I can type quickly, but it will be a blunder and on snot in production, but I can be long and tedious, but there will be a set of components for a spaceship with the prospect of being reused for years in different projects, environments and situations (including working with readers, keyboards, adaptation to people with epilepsy, etc., there can be many nuances). The issue is business objectives. Whatever needs to be done, I'll do it.
Well, and also - the question of the speed of work always depends on the current context. I came across sites where it was necessary to “fix something in 5 minutes”, but the devil would break his leg there, it all depends on everything, and it took hours and days to do some little thing without breaking everything else (but throw it away and redo also not possible). And I saw sites where you just take it and do it without thinking about anything. It is clear that the speed of performing "identical" tasks there differs many times with the same my skills.
how to teach yourself

Show what you've done. This usually works.

obviously do a test task

The correct answer is honest.

I understand that everyone needs a coder who makes a website of any complexity in a couple of days
No, everything has its price. If what you're asking is a reasonable price for what you can, then everyone will agree. Money is the foundation of everything.

Post a portfolio of some of your work and indicate how long each one took. That will be an approximate estimate of the speed.
