How safe is it to use a MacBook Pro in a public space?

Are MacBooks popular with thieves? From what I've heard, macbook is easy to calculate using the tracking sensor. So, stealing such devices is pointless, because it is easy to figure out who stole it. I would like to use this device in a cafe where I often go, but I'm afraid that I will win the close attention of gopniks, because a device costing 120k can play a cruel joke on its copyright holder, because in our country, for such a sum, some are ready to kill.

What a terrible life!
To be afraid of wolves - do not go into the forest. Read less horror stories and remember that even a stolen MacBook can be returned without problems, because its serial number is stored in your Apple ID account.
And yes, turn on FireVault, let it encrypt the data.

What is our country? The last 2 incidents in Russia were 6 and 7 years ago. And so remember that the police keep all buying on a short hook, and they don’t corny take Apple equipment if all the documents are not there.

1) just don’t go where gopniks go
1-1) I once saw a girl at a mitap whose brand new macbook air 11 "was stuffed into a plastic shell imitating sticker bombing, it was peeling, scratched and with a big iRU label. also steamed with this issue 2) for example, it works very well for me at pizza or Starbucks. I
have never had any problems
3) the iPhone costs like a MacBook (it's depends - it depends on the model of both, of course) - people go to cafes and to the beach and don't think about it

Somehow, almost every day for 2 months I worked in a cafe with poppy seeds, I left already when it was dark and always walked home. No problem. But, true, it was the center of the city, although it is no longer the center closer to home.

If in a cafe, gopota hangs out, then, probably, you should not go there in principle. And if this is a decent place, then you won’t surprise anyone with a MacBook.
