How many websites hoster keeps on one server?

I want to open hosting.
The question is: how many sites can be hosted on one dedicated server?
Let's assume such hardware: 8 cores 3 GHz, 32 GB DDR4, 1TB SSD.
And yes, what channel should such a server have?
Is it possible and worth it to divide servers into roles (database servers, web servers, dns servers)?
What characteristics are needed for database servers, dns servers?

I want to open hosting.

Open up. Your head must be aching about something else.
  1. Finding Clients
  2. Administration
  3. Support

How many sites can be hosted - you need to look at the server load (when there will be clients). You need to allocate the maximum amount of resources (percentage, memory, channel) to the tariff plan, and start from this. If consumption is less, then place more customers. The more clients, the more accurate will be the calculation of the dependence of clients on resources.
To get started, host everything on one server to practice and find clients.
What you need for servers, ideally, you are mistaken every 3-4 times. It is necessary to take into account both distribution and reliability, and this is at least a duplication of the park, plus backup servers for tests and in case of a release and replacement of a working server.
But what you need at the initial level is not one SSD, but two (in a raid) + a 5-10TB hard drive for backup, again preferably in a raid. After these tests, experience will already appear.

I want to open hosting.

If you want - open it :)
What can you offer that is original, so that they come to you, and not to others? Remember, of course, about the location of the host, about laws and content, about the fact that porn is allowed in Holland, and in fact it is prohibited in the Russian Federation ...

From 0 to infinity. It's not about quantity, but about resources, workload.

99% of sites are not visited by anyone, except for their owner, who hopes for attendance and regularly checks statistics.
Therefore, nothing prevents hosting at least 1 million of these unvisited sites on one server.
Here it is important to monitor the load and catch the moment when that 1% of those that are visited will load the server too much.
The question is stupid also because sites are very, very different both in terms of traffic and how the site logic loads the system.
