How does the quality of the cable switching SPDIF affect the sound?
There is a mixer with a digital output and an AV receiver with a digital input. I decided to try to connect them with an RCA-RCA audio cable (SoundKing instrument cable) 3 meters long. Having read the information on the topic before, I found out that the connection should be made with a coaxial cable with a characteristic impedance of 75 ohms, and starting my venture with an instrumental cable, I was completely sure that nothing would come of it. But everything worked, everything sounds. Unfortunately, I cannot say that the sound is different or does not differ from the audio-switched one - everything seems to be normal by ear. But I had a question about how exactly the quality of the cable affects the reproduction of sound over the digital path. Let's say if there is a big data loss - what will I hear at the output? Will it be heard clearly in the form of some artifacts?

There will be gaps and stutters, and this will also be visible on the oscillogram.
"Instrumental", as you put it, the cable is often just coaxial, but its impedance is not standardized.
