How can I write a simple sip server and sip client (softphone)?

There is ip-telephony with a permanent number and its own server. Where should I start? I am a beginner, but I know many programming languages, but I have 0 experience in such projects. I would like some hints...

Well, if you want to write from 0 - start by studying the RFCs on SIP standards.
And here's another one to explore: sofia-sip.sourceforge.net , an open source modification of Nokia's SIP stack.
