Digitalocean asking to send scans of documents?

I decided to test https://www.digitalocean.com , like I went through registration and added a credit card. And then you need to go through an identity check, leaving as much information as possible. Since I don’t particularly like twitters, etc. only the mail and phone number remained, after some time a letter came with a request to indicate what the server was for, answered that it was for hosting, after they asked for a photo of a credit card and a document (passport or something like that) sent everything. It's been quiet for days. Decided to find out if this happened to you? On a credit card, a trifle is barely for hosting, so I don’t worry so much. But they have interesting politics. Or did I do something wrong?

This is a common policy for hosting, they try to weed out spammers and other unreliable clients in advance, so as not to rake out tons of abuse later, there is an internal regulation for which data to request additional identification of a person.

If you pay with paypal you don't have to.

The request to send ID and photo of the card is a check for fraud, payment with stolen cards. The bank will check the transactions and withdraw doubtful payments back, but usually it takes time, in the meantime, the hoster will provide payment services, since it cannot verify the transaction itself. Here they are insured.
Other payment methods do not require this verification.

a little offtopic.
if there is a debt of 200 bucks, they send a letter stating that tomorrow they will turn off the servers and all data will be deleted. If you write them a letter, they will cancel the automatic shutdown of the servers, and as a result, you can get $ 300 in debt. They have never turned off servers, thank God. So do not delay with payments, otherwise a fateful day will come sometime and you will lose a lot of time and effort recovering lost data.

It’s strange, I registered a couple of weeks ago, they didn’t ask for a photo, just enter the card itself

standard verification policy for any hosting provider or in general for any service where you pay
