Choosing a Home WiFi Router
I was going to change my home WiFi router, since the old one simply can’t cope (up to spontaneous reboots). Tell me what will stand it?
Uplink:
- static Internet access (/30 subnet with outward routing);
- from the gigabit port of the provider switch;
- the speed is now 300 Mbps, but there is a sure opportunity to increase it.
Consumers of the first order (from the router):
- wired camera (ethernet 100 Mbps, stream 2-3 Mbps);
— wireless camera №1 (2.4GHz, 802.11n, stream 2-3 Mbps);
— wireless camera №2 (2.4GHz, 802.11n, stream 2-3 Mbps);
- MacBook (5Ghz, 802.11n, surfing, sometimes download something from a torrent);
- laptop number 1, Asus (5Ghz, 802.11n, surfing, sometimes download something from a torrent);
- laptop number 2, Samsung (5Ghz, 802.11n, surfing, sometimes download something from a torrent);
— netbook (ethernet 100 Mbps, planned to be used as a video recorder and a warning/monitoring system for cameras and network infrastructure);
— tablet №1, Acer (2.4GHz, 802.11n, surfing, sharing via DLNA on TV photo/video from the camera);
— tablet №2, China (2.4GHz, 802.11n, surfing);
- phone, ZTE (2.4GHz, 802.11n, surfing);
- gigabit ethernet switch for 8 ports.
Consumers of the second order (from a gigabit switch):
- TV, Samsung (ethernet, 1000Mbps, SmartTV functionality, viewing media content via DLNA);
- computer (ethernet, 1000Mbps, torrents, surfing);
- media center, IconBit (ethernet, 100Mbps, torrents, DLNA);
- sip phone, ZuXEL (ethernet, 100Mbps, connects via VPN raised on the router and lives in a dedicated network).
Additionally:
- the presence of a VPN client on the router itself for the ability to connect to a corporate network over an existing Internet connection.

Of the completely new and promising ones: ASUS RT-AC66U , but it is slightly more expensive than the maximum amount, there is an older model ASUS RT-N56U, which is quite invested in the budget. As already mentioned Zyxel Keenetic Giga II , but it runs at 2.4 GHz (5 GHz should support the Ultra model).
mikrotik rb951g-2hnd I don’t know if it really will pull it all out, my requests are more modest, but I liked it very much.
half an hour ago I took a TP-Link 1043ND Dual Band. Much cheaper than your declared limit, but for home Internet it is quite worthy.
