Can RAM be installed?

Good day!
Question, there is a motherboard msi P55-GD45 the maximum amount of RAM is 16 GB, the brackets supported are 1/2/4GB. I installed 8GB with one bar and it works, is it possible to use it like this or do I still need to replace it with 2 × 4GB?
