Can a hard drive's SMART clear itself and "mileage" get deleted?

There is a 500 GB WD hard drive after the previous owner the drive surface was in trouble. After I fixed the troubles with Victoria, of course, after a few months the problem returned and in exactly the same way I fixed everything again, but by some miracle the operating time and the number of inclusions reset itself

If the disk is faulty - everything is possible.
For some disks, this data is recorded in the service areas of the disk, which are not addressed from the computer, for some, on the printed circuit board.

If the surface is in bads, the disk is thrown into the trash.

Surface problems cannot be corrected by software.

WD drives had experience with them.
The connector through which the controller board enters the chamber with the Hard Drive is oxidized. It can be cleaned (with a paper eraser) and everything will work.
BUT such a disk definitely goes to GARBAGE.
I don’t know the application when the owner is ready to lose all his data at any time, since the problem is NOT solvable. I have used magnets very well in everyday life.

It's not "fixed". It "redirected sectors to reserve". Yes, this solves the problem for some time - if you urgently need to read the data, otherwise it's a complete #oops. But such a mode is not intended for operation - it is precisely for "removing data with partial loss" when the question is - either remove part of the data, or erase everything.
A disk with bads means that he is fucked. The bads will grow and one day the disk will simply not be detected. Suitable only for work where the data is not a pity.
