Can a graphic designer know UI/UX?

Good day to all
I understand that the question may be stupid, but still ....
The fact is that I am currently studying to be a graphic designer + I have a secondary education as a programmer technician, in fact the same tools and the principle of working with fonts and colors, etc. P. In my university there is a direction of digital design, but I'm on the graphic and it will be too late for me to transfer. Honestly, at first I thought for a long time, because now there are a lot of people who draw designs for sites and applications and climb into a niche where a lot of people I didn’t want to. But it turned out that a friend makes up and programs websites and offers cooperation in the future, now I’m thinking what to do.
I roughly understand what UI is and what UX is at the initial stage.
The question now is can I, with a graphic designer background, go to UI / UX design?

Of course, this part of the answer will not carry practical value, but have you considered the school? Faculty of Russian?
What is the university? Tell the administrators (or whoever is in charge *) of the university that there is no such specialty as a separate type.
Digital (Digital) design is a general definition for all digital specialties. This includes Motion design, graphic design, 3D design, layout designers and programmers as well. After all, why do web agencies write: "We are a Digital agency" - they work in the field of digital design.
Graphic design and implies employment in the position of "Web Designer". This faculty provides fundamental knowledge and skills that will be necessary when designing websites / mobile applications.
UI/UX is not taught in universities. There are UI/UX oriented DESIGNERS. It is not a specialty of its own.
In general, studying digital specialties at universities is such a thing

Firstly: “ I didn’t want to climb into a niche where there are a lot of people ”, where there are few people there is no demand.
Secondly: UI / UX will not teach you at the university. Study to be a graphic designer and okay, at least it won't hurt you in the future.
Thirdly: "can I go with the peel of a graphic designer ..." With this peel, you can go sweep the streets and deliver food :) no offense. To go into UI/UX to make money, you need a strong portfolio and a good grasp of usability and the like.
