Are the components compatible for a small server?
You have to start somewhere, and for me that moment comes this month. I collect a relatively budgetary, due to the course (up to 150 k rubles), a server under 1C MS SQL (base about 4gb and about 15 employees). Maybe I didn’t take something into account, I wouldn’t want to try to change / return the working hardware later. Unfortunately, I didn’t find among my friends who understand, and the statements “yes, it’s like nothing, take it” do not cause delight.
In my city, for me it turned out to be the lowest price tag + pick up "across the road", don't take it for advertising
So:
Server motherboard SUPERMICRO MBD-X9DRL-IF-B, bulk

There will be one processor, but taking into account that in 2 years (or earlier) the second one will be bought. With one processor, the second part of the memory slots is not available. This also applies to PCI slots. But as they commented on a similar question on the toaster - 99% then do not buy the second stone.

[x4] Memory Kingston 8Gb DDR3 (KVR16R11S4/8) DIMM ECC Reg PC3-12800 CL11

The functionality for selecting "recommended" memory does not work on the SUPERMICRO website. Out of habit I take Kingston
[x2] SSD INTEL S3610 Series SSDSC2BX200G401 200GB, 2.5", SATA III

SSD in mirror for system and MS SQL database
[x1] Hard drive WD Black WD3003FZEX, 3TB, SATA III, 3.5"

Specific "heavyweight" software will live. If there are problems - there are no critical data, I just change the screw ... Or if there is a day, I'll take the second one and in the mirror

Power supply without redundancy, plus I searched for filters so that it was "24 + 8 + 8 pin"

I just have a free one
[x1] Uninterruptible power supply APC Back-UPS BX700UI, 700VA

Weak uninterruptible power supply, but the budget. The task is either to hold out until the start of the "diesel engine", or to put it out correctly.
Here a separate question arises, but is it able to extinguish correctly. On one of the servers under win2008 drivers from APC at one time caused a blue screen, and the software refused to extinguish correctly (yes, everything from the native disk + downloaded from the off site)
I repeat that if there was a sufficient amount of finance, I would take a 2U case, server blocks food and more. Now I want to launch it and have it work in 24/7/365 mode for at least 3-4 years.
Hence, I don’t want to take a “top gaming i7” (they say, then sell it after 3 years) or used

I have the same tasks + a host of virtual machines (3 pcs on VMWare) performs a self-assembled "server type" on an office motherboard Gigabyte, i7, 32 G, 3 SSD 120G for OS, virtual machines and Bases, HDD for archives. Assembled in a 2U budget rack case. Purchased for reasons of minimum budget and recovery in case of an accident - up to 4 hours. 2 years does not turn off, works.
At that time, several identical servers were bought for different tasks, one of them is an archive server, it is also a box with spare parts in case of repair.
