Windows read-only system?

is it possible to create a windows system that works in read-only mode (did not write data to the hard disk), and after a reboot it restored its original state?
Solution: we start using windows 8 embedded with the Unified Write Filter function.

There is such MS SteadyState . Among other things, it allows you to reset the state of the disk on reboot.

There is.
1. Install VMware ESXi.
2. Deploy the VM from the image.
3. In the virtual machine settings, set the Nonpersistent Disk option.

4. Your operating system will be reset after each reboot.
It is likely that this functionality is supported by other hypervisors as well. Didn't encounter.

For rollback - Shadow User. But I have little faith in the performance of Windows without the ability to write to disk ...

I thought about winPE, then there will be a very slow and thoughtful system
