Will the wi-fi antenna work properly in repeater mode?

Hello. The situation is this: you need to relay wi-fi from the access point that the provider installed in the holiday village. In my area, the signal is weak, I raised the repeater (a regular router) to the second floor, showed a reception level of 15-22%, but too little, and the link is unstable. Although the access point is about 400 meters away, there are no obstacles other than a couple of high-voltage poles. I decided to buy a good antenna, and the question arose: will the antenna work as it should? That is, to accept a wi-fi provider and distribute it to the site through a router? Won't it turn out that all I get is a very strong bad wi-fi signal?
