Will the SATA USB 2.5 adapter work with hdd 3.5?

There is an hdd from a laptop and a PC, 2.5 and 3.5 inches respectively, the question is, why not buy two adapters, can I buy one that would fit both?

The main difference between 2.5 and 3.5 screws is power. 3.5" has 12V power, 2.5" has 5V. USB can only give 5V (USB type-c is not considered). That is, a 3.5" screw cannot be powered via USB.

For 2.5, power from usb is enough, but for 3.5, an additional power source is needed. I have an adapter like this:

Since they have the same geometry of the connectors, then yes, it will fit. You just need to choose an adapter that allows you to connect an external 12-volt power supply. The most elementary simple and convenient option is this one:

It can work with 2.5 only via USB power, and requires external 12 volts only when connected to 3.5. You can buy it here .
