Will a graphics tablet work in a custom program running in VMware?

I need to draw lines in my program. The mouse is not so comfortable and the hand gets tired.
Do graphics tablets work with all programs? Or only with standard paint, gimp, etc.?
Pressing force is not important to me. All you need is an imitation of mouse actions - "move", "click", "movement with the left button pressed".
