Why won't new linux boot on hp laptops?
wrote the installation image of ubuntu 21.04 to the USB flash drive and failed to boot on the laptop. grub is loading, after selecting the option, the underscore character does not blink, it just hangs. It started up on the computer without problems. I wrote fedora beta on a flash drive, the same thing does not start on a laptop after grub. maybe something with uefi was tricked. I kind of read the news that because of the vulnerability, something changed there.

Interestingly, for some reason I have no problems loading. Some kind of kernel 5.10. Well, that is, I didn’t do anything at all - everything found itself and worked :) as it should be.

The problem is most likely in the video driver. With UEFI - yes, they messed up there, the bootable image must be strictly in UEFI, in legacy it is not even seen as a boot device.
