Conditions:
smartd daemon configured:
/dev/sdc -a -I 190 -I 194 -W 5,45,50 -R 5 -o on -S on -s (S/../ ../(1|3)/03|L/../../5/05) -m [email protected] -M once -n standby,q Messages
are poured into the log : Question: What do these messages mean PS The fact that the hard drive is bad and he wants to retire is clear to me, but I want to figure out in detail what is happening. Especially the last message, because it is also found on other discs.

This is the initial offline data collection status. It is logged as LOG_INFO, no sign of trouble.
The log messages should no longer appear with smartd >= r3428 unless enabled by '-l offlinests' directive. See man page.
