Why is the camera quality poor on video calls?

Tell me, please, when making video calls via Google Meet, Skype, etc., as it turned out, the picture that the video user has is of very low quality. I don’t understand this and didn’t even realize that the way I see myself in the preview is not at all what my interlocutors see in the end :) I was told that it’s not about the camera, but about the program itself ..? Does this mean that nothing will change when you buy a webcam? Do I need an ip camera or what to buy to improve video quality?

buy a better Internet channel
and look for resolution numbers in the camera, they should be at least 800 px
