Why is a hidden partition needed in OS X?

Greetings! Now I decided to upload an OS X Lion image to my flash drive, went to Disk Utility, marked it as 1 partition and noticed that my partition is called disk2s2 and instead of 8 GB, only 7.7 GB remains. Turned on Debug Mode, looked in:

I can understand the need for this partition on the system drive, but why do I need it on a portable drive and flash drive? Is it possible to delete this section, and in general what is its purpose?

@cjey

And you delete it and see what falls off :)
Do not be afraid to experiment! Well, then you can write an article;)

Hello!
This hidden section can be safely killed. It shouldn't be on the Lion bootable flash drive, that's 100%.
We repeatedly created and installed a system from a flash drive on different poppies for clients.
