Why does the laptop not see the external microphone?

I have one 3.5mm connector in my laptop, in order to use the microphone, I bought an adapter
. But still, the laptop stubbornly refuses to see an external microphone. I've watched a lot of videos, websites, but nothing helps. What should I do to make the laptop "see" the external microphone?

Buy a USB microphone ;)
The adapter looks like the right one (4 pins). Have you tried checking both boxes when connecting?

You can use the item to connect two sets of earphones, headphones or stereo speakers to your MP3 or media player.

To begin with, plug in the headset from the phone (but not from Nokia) and check if the headset microphone is working. If it works, you bought the wrong adapter.
