Why does the carriage in VIM skip lines?

I have a .py file
and I have a caret in it:

I press the up arrow and this is what happens:

The caret jumps 2 lines
How can I just jump one line up?

PS I use the Hyper terminal, I recommend

Because these are not two lines, but one big one with a hyphen.
