Why does an error occur when adding a PPA repository?

I enter the command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:wireguard/wireguard
As a result, the error is:
Error: 'ppa:wireguard/wireguard' invalid

What could be the reason?

command output
[email protected]:~$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:wireguard/wireguard

@qreodium

ppa you don't need
For Debian 10

sudo echo 'deb http://deb.debian.org/debian buster-backports main contrib non-free' > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/buster-backports.list
sudo apt update
sudo apt install wireguard

PS: for posterity - in Debian 11 for wireguard no backport manipulations are needed
