Why does a page with SVG icons slow down?

The site has icons in svg format with about 100 pieces per page. Browser window slows down when scrolling (mostly on Chrome). Moreover, if you put png, the page works perfectly. I'm building a project with Vue JS. Optimized and compressed in different ways and on different services. How can I optimize svg.

It doesn't always make sense to use svg.
If these are complex / voluminous elements, then png / jpg size 2x weigh less., And the result is the same
